On the day you move, close your existing account, then open a new account for your new home.

Step 1 - Close your old account 

On the day you move out, fill in this form to close your account

You'll need:

  1. Your Bord Gáis Energy account number.
  2. Your gas GPRN and/or electricity MPRN for the account you’re closing. Learn how to find GPRN/MPRN here.
  3. Your final meter reading. If you're on an electricity smart plan, you don't need to provide this. Learn how to read your meter here.
  4. Contact details for your landlord or the new occupier.
  5. Your new address (so we can send your final bill).

Step 2 - Open your new account

One the day you move in, sign up to the best plan for your new home. You don't need to call us - signing up online only takes a few minutes.

When signing up, you'll need:

  1. Your gas GPRN and/or electricity MPRN  for your new home. Learn how to find GPRN/MPRN here.
  2. Your first meter reading. If you're on an electricity smart plan, you don't need to provide this. Learn how to read your meter here.
  3. Your new home address.

If the account isn't in your name

I'm a landlord, and my tenant is moving out.

  • Open a new account in your name until you have a new tenant. This is important to avoid disconnection. You can sign up online here or contact us
