What is Smart Pay As You Go?
On Smart Pay As You Go, you pay for electricity as you use it.
A Smart Pay As You Go (SPAYG) plan is a good way to budget for your electricity, and to pay off any outstanding debt, where applicable, over time. You pay for electricity as you use it, and you don’t have to worry about bills coming in monthly or every two months like a standard electricity account.
Smart Pay As You Go plans are currently available to existing Bord Gáis Energy customers with a smart meter, who are in financial difficulty and wish to use this plan to re-pay debt. If you would like to discuss moving to a Smart Pay As You Go plan, please contact us.
Our Smart Pay As You Go tariff is a smart half-hourly tariff and is only available if you have a smart meter. It's not available for vulnerable customers on the Priority Support Register. If you're a special services customer, we'll discuss with you whether this product is suitable for you. There is a risk of disconnection if your balance falls below zero.
Your smart meter must be able to communicate regularly with ESB Networks to support timely re-energisation. Some meters do not have the required level of communications to support the Smart Pay As You Go plan.
If your meter communications deteriorate after you've moved to Smart Pay As You Go, you may need to move back to a credit plan. If this happens you will be moved to our Smart Standard plan, and a collections agent will be in contact with you to confirm your options.
