What is Hive Active Heating?

Hive Active Heating is a smart thermostat to help you manage your energy.

Hive Active Heating lets you control your heating from your smartphone. And if you’ve got a hot water tank, you can control that too.

You can buy Hive even if you purchase your energy supply from a different supplier. Call our team on 01 611 01 45 to buy and select your installation date.

Hive can be installed regardless of whether you rent or own your home. If you’re renting, youll need your landlord’s permission to install the Hive kit.

Although there are a small number of incompatible boilers and heating system controls, Hive Active Heating works with most heating systems. Our Service Engineer will confirm suitability, whilst at your property.

Single-zone and multi-zone heating

If you received Hive as part of your offer with Bord Gáis Energy, you’re entitled to a free single-zone Hive Active Heating with professional installation. The free Hive Active Heating offer includes one heating zone and one hot water zone. Standard single-zone heating generally means that the temperature is the same in every room in the house.

Your home may have multi-zone heating. Multi-zone heating enables you to separately control the heating in different parts of your home e.g. during the day you can keep the living room nice and cosy without having to waste heat in your bedrooms.

If your home has single-zone heating please sign into your online account or register to book your Hive installation appointment.

If your home has multi-zone heating an extra charge of €119 per zone will apply. To book your appointment for multi-zone please call 01 611 01 45.

Please note: If you received both a Hive and a boiler service as part of your offer, you only need to book one appointment as both jobs will be completed during the allocated time.

Internet connection information

The standard Nano 2 Hub needs to be physically connected to your router using an ethernet cable (like the one provided with your hub).

Hive’s Hub 360 connects through Wi-Fi, so you don’t need to plug it into your router. Click here for more information on Hive Hub 360.

If your broadband stops working, your Hive heating will continue to work. You’ll just need to make changes to your heating settings on the thermostat itself, rather than using Hive online or your smartphone app.
