Smart Pay As You Go online account explained
You can view your usage, top up and manage your Smart Pay As You Go account online.
To access your Smart Pay As You Go (SPAYG) online account, sign in or register. Once you sign in, you'll see your account list. Select the electricity account under 'Smart Pay As You Go'. You'll also see relevant account notifications on this page.
SPAYG Notifications
The Smart PAYG notifications keep you updated on your available credit balance, required top up amount and more. Here are a list of the different notifications you may see on your account:
- Take Action: This alert notifies you that your balance is getting low and a top up is required to stay connected, within the indicated remaining days, e.g. two days remaining.
- You're at risk of disconnection: This alert means that you must top up by the 'Stay Connected' amount by the indicated date to stay connected.
- Your electricity has been disconnected: This alert notifies you that a top up of the 'Stay Connected' amount is required to restore the electricity supply to your home.
- You have a [total number] of pending payments: This alert notifies you that your latest top up(s) will be visible in your account within 30 minutes of making the transaction.
- Your electricity is reconnecting: This alert notifies you that the minimum 'Stay Connected' amount has been received. The electricity supply to your home will be restored within 75 mins of topping up.
Outstanding debt
If you're on our Smart Pay As You Go plan, you may have outstanding debt. This is transferred from your old account to your new SPAYG account. You can track your outstanding debt on your online account under the Overview tab. Scroll down to see Outstanding Debt.
Microgeneration
As a smart customer, you can check if you're already registered for microgeneration or eligible for microgeneration. If eligible, please see How qualify and apply for a Microgen Payment.
Payments
On the Payments tab, you can:
- Top up your account
- Check all pending payments and completed payments (within the last 26 months)
- Under Payment Options, you'll have the option to use saved card details or enter new card details
Inbox
You can keep track of your statements, past bills, letters and messages through your inbox.
You can view your payment history in quarterly statements, including your old standard credit tariff statements. The statements are downloadable in PDF format.
You'll receive a notification via email or text to let you know that a letter is available in your inbox. Letters may include your SPAYG sign up confirmation letter, the balance on your account and current debt on the account. The letters are downloadable in PDF format.
All your alerts (as mentioned above under Notifications) will also be saved under Messages in your inbox.
Account Information
You can update your contact information, preferred contact method and contact frequency in the Profile section of your online account.
Please note: the Bord Gáis Energy mobile app is not currently available for Smart Pay As You Go customers.
