Before you start

  • Best time to submit: 1 to 5 days before the start of your 'next bill between' date.
  • You can check your next bill date in your online account.

The easiest way: Use your online account

  1. Sign in to your online account. Don’t have an account? You can register online.
  2. Select the account you want to submit a reading for.
  3. Click the "Submit a reading" tab.
  4. Enter your meter reading and click Submit.
  5. You’ll see a confirmation message once it’s sent to Gas Networks Ireland or ESB Networks.

Other ways to submit a reading

If you can’t submit a reading online

You might see an error if:

  • The reading is lower than your last actual reading.
  • Your meter hasn’t been read by the network in over 12 months.
  • Your meter type isn’t supported online.

A few things to keep in mind

  • The network may reject a reading if it doesn’t match your usage history.
  • You might not see your exact reading on your bill, but it still helps improve future estimates.

Smart meter users

If you have a smart meter connected to ESB Networks, you don’t need to submit readings. The meter sends them automatically.
