Why is my bill estimated?
Throughout the year, ESB Networks and Gas Networks Ireland will attempt to read your meter four times*. There will be two planned estimates provided from both networks during this time. The number of estimates may increase if the network(s) is unable to gain access to the meter.
We would encourage our customers to submit readings where possible during this time through one of the following options:
- For gas or electricity, you can sign in to your online account to submit a meter reading. If you don’t have an online account, you can register.
- Submit through Gas Networks Ireland and/or ESB Networks, just make sure you have your MPRN/GPRN number to hand.
The best time to provide a read is within five days of your next bill issue date. You can see your next bill issue date on your online account.
You can see if your most recent meter read was estimated or actual on the right-hand side of your bill, in the 'Your meter reads and consumption' section. Take a look at our bill guides for more information.
Please note that Gas Networks Ireland and ESB Networks are responsible for providing us with actual and estimated reads, and for verifying submitted customer reads.
*If you've a smart electricity meter, ESB Networks will read your meter remotely 6 times a year, and you won't need to submit reads online.
